Same holiday party, different year…

What’s your company doing for the holidays? Perhaps it occurs to your management approximately two weeks before Christmas Eve that it’s the holidays and that “we should really organize a holiday party”? And of course the question that every coworker tries to duck, who’s going to take care of the logistics? In most companies things are a little crazy toward the end of the year, hurry up and increase sales, or spend that budget before we lose it. After all, the numbers have to be just right by the end of the year. Usually the admin (aka secretary) or the interns have to deal with this last minute-ness. “Sally, can you find a nice hotel or restaurant for our holiday party? Brilliant, thanks, you’re a gem! The interns are at your beck and call if you need ‘em!”
Fast forward to the party: About a quarter of the staff decide to take off right after dinner, out of sheer boredom, although every one of them has a fantastic excuse as to why they need to leave (gotta go pick up the kids, the dog is home alone, I’m suddenly experiencing eyelash pain, whatever), while others are determined to test out the entire palette of alcohol at the open bar resulting in coworkers under the table no later than two hours following - who cares, free booze, right? On-stage we’ve got the 2-man band show trying their best to desperately get the audience’s attention while the high achievers do a bit of hob-nobbing with the company’s leaders. Perhaps you’re one of the lucky ones who’s company doesn’t even try to throw a holiday party together last minute. That can also have its advantages. In the event that any of the comments above seem to sound familiar, our deepest condolences. Here’s our tip - it doesn’t have to be this way, there’s professional help! ![]()
